    Hello…?
    :)

Sanctity of Life - The belief that life is sacred and can only be given and taken by God. The concept that life is holy, that actions such as euthanasia and abortion are an insult to God. Christians believe that humans were created in the likeness of God and so God must have (at least) the intelligence of a human being. However, this does not neccessarily mean God looks precisely like a human being. This belief strongly effects the debate of abortion as those who agree with this concept will therefore think abortion is involving the human race in God’s plan.

Ensoulment - The religious belief that during the development of a baby within a mother’s womb, God gives the foetus a soul. The process is called “Ensoulment”. There are debates within the religious community over when precisely ensoulment takes place during fetal development. Ensoulment is important to the debate of abortion as many believe a foetus/developing baby only becomes a human life when ensoulment has occured. Clearly, with no one correct opinion over the precise time of ensoulment, there is still much controversy over the subject of when a human life is created and whether abortion is morally right.

Personhood - Personhood is the development of a conscious, the ability to be self-aware, and the right to individuality. Every human being will develop some level of personhood. There is debate over how a subject of artificial life could be considered a “person” through it’s own experience and conscience. A developing child has the potential to become a person at the moment of it’s birth; therefore, should have the rights, freedom and exsistence that a person is given. There is controversy over when a foetus becomes a person (or a human being with a human life)in the womb. This is important to the debate of abortion as if indeed a child has even potential to become a person, there would be controversy over whether the destruction of an embryo was just.

    THE SANCTITY OF LIFE
Sanctity means ‘the quality of being sacred or holy.’
Christians often say that human life is sacred. It is referred to when discussing issues such as; abortion, euthanasia, embryo research, the care of the disabled or elderly.
They believe there is something special or holy about numan life. Christians believe that every human is special to God.
Humans are the only part of God’s creation described as being the image of God.
Christians don’t believe that we look like God. They believe that being in the image of God means that we are somehw special, we have something of God’s nature in us- or at least the capacity to show God’s nature.

    PERSONHOOD
The definition of this is ‘a human being regarded as an individual.’ Alternative definitions include a wide range of alternative defining characteristics some include personal identity, self- awareness, individuality and a sense of self that persists through time.
The inquiry into what it means to be a ‘person’ is the subject of considerable analysis and debate within diverse fields such as religion, medecine, ethics, economic and political theory, human rights and animal rights.

    ENSOULMENT
This refers to the creation of a soul within or the placing of a soul into a human being.
Some theologists have believed that the souls are newly created within a developing baby, while some believe that souls were created before time and are added to baies while it develops.
Some claim that the moment of conception is the time of ensoulment during fetal development, some think it’s the moment of implantation and some think its at the time of quickening.
The presence or absence of a soul is factored into considerations of the moral nature of abortion and whether it is or not morally equivalent to infanticide and murder.

These three terms link to abortion because if you are a believer in the sanctity of life then you would believe that life is too sacred to be destroyed through an abortion.

People who believe in the theory of personhood would say that an embyro doesn’t have the characteristics that a person does such as; self awareness and individuality. This would mean that generally they are not against abortion.

I think ensoulment would link to abortion depending on when that person feels the soul enters the human. If they feel it is before birth then they could be against abortion.

    Sanctity of Life:
The sanctity of life is the value of your life and the continuation of life. It is how precious you see life, as a gift, or a burden. The sanctity of life is how special life is and how much you would fight for it, and how worth life is living. How far you would go to protect it.

    Personhood:
Personhood is, I believe when you understand, appreciate and can accept who you are. Personhood requires intelligence, maturity, patience and acceptance. Personhood does not necessarilly commence with age or your vies on life. Personhood comes when you are able to see yourself with open eyes and an open heart.

    Ensoulment:
A soul is not something that can be borrowed, or stolen, copied or bought. A person’s soul captures the essence of that person, the faults and the achievements, the insecurities, the fears, the love and passion. The everything that makes that person who they are is found within their soul.

Sanctity of life, personhood and ensoulment all relate to the topic of abortion. If a womans views on the sanctity of life are that life, her life, her baby’s, everyones life,is precious and special and worth more than anything else, she may also believe that abortion is wrong as everyone should be given an equal oppourtunity of life.

If a womans view on personhood are similar to my definition, her belief may be responsible for her choice on abortion. She may feel that if she does not know herself how is she supposed to bring someone else into the world and shape them, and bring them up by her own morals, and values, and with love in their hearts.

Ensoulment may also affect a womens choice on abortion. If the mother-to-be believes that her baby will only recieve a soul once it is born she may not feel as strongly against abortion in the time up until birth. However if the opposite was believed, and a mother-to-be felt that her baby was given a soul from conception or has passed on part of her soul to her baby she may well be against abortion.

    SANCTITY OF LIFE:
The word sanctity means purity or holiness. When it is used to describe life it expresses the idea of the most precious thing. The phrase Sanctity of life refers to the idea that life is sacred, argued mainly by the postitive side in political and moral debates over such controversial issues as abortion, contraception, euthanasia, and the “right to die”.

    PERSONHOOD:
The state or condition of being a person, especially having those qualities that confer distinct individuality. At one point in every persons life they experience a sense of “personhood”. There is controversy over when a foetus becomes a person which is why people are questioning if the abortion date should be lowered because scientists believe that the longer you postpone pregnancy the more the foetus develops into a person who is able to experience sensations such as pain and pleasure.

    ENSOULMENT:
In Christian theology, ensoulment refers to the creation of a soul within, or the placing of a soul into, a human being—a concept most often discussed in reference to abortion.

Some theologians have believed that souls are newly created within a developing baby, while some believe that souls were created before time and are added to babies while the body develops.

    The sanctity of life

The sanctity of life is the belief that life is the most important thing on earth and all possible steps must be taken to preserve it. Christians believe that as god gave life to everybody taking it away is taking away gods gift. Taking away a life is also considered showing contempt at god. Jesus said the greatest command was to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart”. Taking away someone’s life denies him or her the chance to love and be loved in the future.

    Personhood
The word personhood defines someone who is an individual and used to include all humans. However, personhood can no longer technically be used to describe foetus’, babies with undeveloped brains and adults incapable of higher-level brain activity (e.g. Someone in a persistent vegetative state).

    Ensoulment

Christians believe that ensoulment is the point at which the soul is added to the human body. There is some controversy over when ensoulment happens; some believe it happens when one of the vital organs forms (heart, lungs, brain, etc) while others believe it happens at the moment of conception. Those who believe that ensoulment happens at the moment of conception are also strongly against abortion, believing it to be murder.

    SANCTITY OF LIFE

The word sanctity means purity or holiness. When it is used to describe life it expresses the idea of the most precious thing. In the first chapter of Genesis it says that life was created by God, and that all human beings were made in his image. The taking of another person’s life is a sin against God.

Christians believe that life is a gift from God. The purpose of life is to serve God and so we must treat all people as equal, as they are all in the image of God.

    PERSONHOOD

A socially constructed moral category that denotes the inclusion criteria and salient characteristics that distinguish human beings from other forms of life and thus specify the individuals to which we owe particular moral obligations, i.e., those obligations we have to others due to their status as persons. In general, there are two ways of defining personhood. Philosophically, personhood is generally defined by some list of essential properties by which we recognize a human being as a person. Though these lists vary, they often include such characteristics as consciousness, the ability to reason, self-movement, self-awareness and a capacity to communicate. The second way of defining personhood is more theologically oriented and entails some relational interpretation of what it means to be a person. In this sense, personhood is often conceived of in terms of one’s ability to have relationships with other human beings and the special relationship human beings have with God.

    ENSOULMENT

In Christian theology, ensoulment refers to the creation of a soul within, or the placing of a soul into, a human being—a concept most often discussed in reference to abortion.

Some theologians have believed that souls are newly created within a developing baby, while some believe that souls were created before time and are added to babies while the body develops.

    Sanctity:

The phrase Sanctity of life refers to the idea that life is sacred, argued mainly by the pro-life side in political and moral debates over such controversial issues as abortion, contraception, euthanasia, and the “right to die” in the United States, United Kingdom and other English-speaking countries.

Sanctity means ‘the quality of being sacred or holy.’ Christians often talk of human life as being sacred. They refer to the sanctity of life when considering issues such as abortion, euthanasia, embryo research, the care of disabled or the elderly. They believe there is something special or holy about human life. Every human, Christians believe, is special to God.

    Personhood:

Personhood is the recognition of status as a person and the characteristics which differentiate humans from other animals. Characteristics used to define a person include personal identity, self-awareness, individuality, and a sense of self that persists through time.

    Ensoulment:

Christian’s use the word ensoulment to refer to the creation of a soul within, or the placing of a soul into, a human being. Some believe that souls are newly created within a developing baby, whilst others believe that souls were created before time and are added to babies while the body develops. There is considerable debate about the timing of ensoulment during foetal development, some claim the moment of conception, some the moment of implantation, some the formation of the heart, some the formation of the nervous system and brain, some the development of viable lungs, and still others the time of quickening. Others place the time of ensoulment at the moment of birth.

These three topics relate to abortion in that life is considered sacred and the time in which a human being receives its soul is widely debated, so the time allowed for an abortion before the foetus becomes a person is very difficult to decide, due to the different beliefs of when human life begins.

Ensoulment is when God gives a foetus that has just been conceived, a soul. That’s why if you abort a foetus it is automatically seen as murder, because you are murdering a potential human life.

Sanctity of life is when Christians believe that life is sacred and rare. Life can only be given and taken away by God himself. The human life is holy and so, recreational drug use is a sin. However, Christians use alcohol to celebrate Christ. Sanctity of life is referred to when talking about abortion, euthanasia and stem cell research. If you have an abortion you are going against Gods will and killing a potential human.

Personhood is when you are an individual and even more rare and special. It is when someone becomes a person. However, people debate over whether life begins in the womb or when a baby is born.

Sanctity of life is the idea that each life is worth the same amount. A criminal, a hero, a unborn baby, all of these are of the same value according to this theory. It is a idea that is not exclusive to religeon, many atheists support this theory, along with many Christians. It relates to abortion since if the unborn foetus’s life is worth the same amount as an adults life, surely abortion is murder.

Ensoulment, Christians say, is the point in time when God infuses a newly concieved foetus with a soul. The argument is that if God infuses a soul just when the foetus is concieved, surely he has a plan for that foetus, and no-one should interfere with it. This argument really only applies to members of a religeon, but it relates to abortion because if God has a plan for that child then abortion is defying God.

Personhood is what supposedly sets apart humans from animals. Our unique looks, personalities and morality set us apart and that is why it is such a heinous crime to kill another human being. This relates to abortion because even if that foetus does not have personhood yet, it still has the potential, therefore abortion should be considered murder.

Sanctity of life is the term Christians use which relates to being sacred or holy. Christains refer to the sanctity of life when considering issues such as abortion, and embryo research.
As it is God who creates and takes a way life, Christains strongly believe abortion is wrong and out of the question as it is considered as murder or taking away an innocent life.

Personhood can be described by the characteristcis of one. When a person becomes aware of who and where they are from including thier own personal identity.

Ensoulment in the Christian faith is refered to the creation of the soul within. This topic is usualy discussed when it comes to abortion, as it is thought that the soul is made even before an embryo has staterd to develop properly. Others disagree with this and believe that the soul is added later on when the baby is near the end of being developed fully.

All of these three points relate to abortion as they explain when it is considered to be a human being, whether its a newly convieved egg or a baby being born

anctity of Life – this refers to the idea that all of life is sacred and that it has been given to us by God. This theory plays a large role in the religious view on abortion as if life has been given to us by God then it is wrong to take it away. There is also a non-religious form of this theory which while it doesn’t involve the idea that life is given to us by God, but that despite that it is still incredibly valuable and that taking it away is wasting something precious.

Personhood – the recognition of the status as a person. There is much controversy over what it takes for someone or something to be a person, such as if an artificial intelligence were created that had most of the capabilities of a human with the exception of physically being one if that could be referred to as a person. In addition it examines when in a pregnancy the foetus becomes a person, this is linked with the theological debate on ensoulment.

Ensoulment - the placing of a soul into a human being. There is considerable debate about the timing of ensoulment during fetal development, with some claiming the moment of conception, some the moment of implantation, some the formation of the heart, some the formation of the nervous system and brain and some the development of viable lungs. This theological debate has considerable impact upon the abortion debate as Christians believe that once ensoulment has taken place then it is murder to abort the foetus.

    Sanctity of life

Christians believe that human life is sacred. Every human is special to God. They believe that by killing someone, even for health reasons is wrong and you’re destroying God’s life. Sanctity of life is often referred to in matters such as abortion

    Ensoulment

Refers to the creation of the soul within. God gives a conceived foetus a soul and so if you have an abortion you are murdering human life.

    Personhood

Defining someone as an idividual. But it’s not used to describe people who arn’t fully developed as humans eg. foetus’ who’s brains haven’t fully developed yet

    HEY!!!!!!!

    R.S. homework

    Definitions:

Sanctity of life: the quality of life or the pureness of life

Personhood: the recognition of status as a person

Ensoulment: the creation of the soul within or the placing of a soul into a human being

They relate to abortion because people will have different views of when these things take place. Also most people believe that someone is fully human when they have all of these things, so if a unborn baby had all of these things it is technically a human not a foetus so it should not be aborted
